〔Facing the suffering of the Peruvian police officers〕

I have been working at the Peruvian National Police Hospital for 15 years as a clinical psychologist.
Police officers in Peru have special responsibilities such as cracking down on terrorism and smuggling organizations, and efforts to eradicate crimes are increasing and worsening day by day. They have excessive stress such as anxiety.
These frontline efforts are unimaginable, and of the approximately 40,000 police officers in the capital city of Lima, 40% of them, including their families, need mental care. It means that a large number of people are sick.
Thus, the fact that many police officers involved in national security need mental care is a very serious problem for the country.
I have been involved in the mental care of police officers and their families for many years. However, the number of patients continues to increase rather than decrease. Yet, the budget is limited, so the hospital offers the minimum necessary measures.
As a psychological counselor, I was busy dealing with the patients. I spent my days experiencing the limits of modern medical care, and I wondered if there was any solution.

〔Encounter with the Okada Health and Wellness Program〕

Under these circumstances, in October 2009, I attended a MOA-sponsored “Health Promotion Seminar” at a police hospital when I first learned about the Okada Health and Wellness Program.
At the “Health Promotion Seminar” we received an explanation about the wellness program and experienced Purifying Therapy, the Arts and Culture Program using flowers, and dietary methods. At that time, I felt that I finally came across what I had been looking for for many years.
Immediately, I felt more relaxed by continuing to receive the wellness program centered on Purifying Therapy at the MOA Wellness Center in the same district with my colleagues. At that time, I had inflammation of my tonsils, and I had pain and discomfort in my throat. However, it improved in a short period of time. I was surprised at its remarkable effect. Then, in addition to counseling, I wanted to give Purifying Therapy to the patients I am in charge of (about 100 police officers and their families), so I registered for membership in May 2010.
After that, I rented a room in the MOA Wellness Center, and along with mental care, I practiced the wellness program centered on Purifying Therapy. Thus, the patients have seen unprecedented improvements.
As a psychological counselor myself, I made a big difference by learning about the philosophy of MOA. What I especially value is Mokichi Okada’s philosophy of “gratitude,” “sincerity and devotion,” and “obtaining happiness by serving others and society.” Those values changed my outlook on life by 180 degrees. All my patients want happiness, but I couldn’t clarify how to put it into practice and realize it on a daily basis. I was facing an impasse.
However, by encountering MOA and presenting the philosophy and the concrete practice method of the Okada Health and Wellness Program, my impasse was removed and I witnessed each patient begin to obtain happiness. I am truly able to fulfill my mission as a psychological counselor, and I am grateful to Okada for MOA.
Here, I would like to introduce the case of two patients who have made remarkable improvements by introducing MOA’s philosophy and wellness program into mental care, based on an interview with them.

〔Experience cases of two patients〕
【S, 52 years old, male】

I have become a police officer with a sense of mission, striving to solve the problems of evil that are prevalent in society, and have been on the path of executives.
However, during the previous administration, I was a bodyguard for a VIP, always at risk of my life, and had little time to stay calm at work or at home. In addition, I became “depressed” due to problems with relationships and various problems at work. I decided to retire and get another job.
The feeling of frustration deeply hurt my heart and I had the problem of not being able to regain my positive feelings. While the anxiety and stress could not be easily resolved, I continued to receive the mental care of Dr. E, a psychological counselor.
In September 2010, Dr. E said, “Your care will be given at the MOA Wellness Center near the hospital and not at the police hospital. In addition to the care, I began receiving Purifying Therapy.
Never having had a good night’s sleep, I can now sleep better after receiving Purifying Therapy about five times.
Even now, I continue to receive Purifying Therapy at the Wellness Center about twice a week. I can sleep soundly at night, and my wife and people around me say that they see me smiling often. I can see the improvement of the symptoms of high blood pressure, which seems to have come from stress. I am deeply grateful that this is also due to the Okada Health and Wellness Program, and I would like to continue receiving the program.
Under these circumstances, through Purifying Therapy, I have become positive not only physically but also mentally and spiritually. I should be able to return to work.
In the future, in order to be able to solve my own problems from the ground up, I would like to “dedicate myself to people and society and live a life that makes me happy,” as stated in the MOA philosophy.

【L, 51 years old, female】

I work at a police hospital as a nurse. My husband was a police officer, and at first we lived a happy life. However, due to work, both my husband and I were often stressed. Before we knew it, there were constant conflicts between us.
Due to being a nurse at the police hospital, I think I have an understanding of my husband’s profession. Yet, as we worked hard every day, including having financial problems, it unknowingly created a gap between my husband and me.
As such days continued, I once seriously thought, “I think it would be better to divorce my husband, for myself and for the education of my children.”
In order to solve that problem, I was receiving care from a psychological counselor, Dr. E, at the same hospital. One day, I tried to arrange flowers for the first time because Dr. E adopted the wellness program of using flowers. At that time, I felt that I was encouraged by the beauty of the flowers.
After receiving advice from Dr. E, “Why don’t you try arranging flowers at home to improve your marital relationship?”, I decided to immediately start arranging flowers in the living room and bedroom from that day.
By seeing flowers constantly, the conversation between my husband and me became lively and we could understand each other’s feelings. The presence of flowers has mysteriously reduced the quarrels between us. I am still decorating my home with flowers as indispensable actions. When I was busy and missed replacing the flowers, my husband began to ask me, “The flowers have withered. It seems lonely, so I want you to arrange new flowers.” Now that we can talk to each other about work, daily life, our children’s education, etc., the atmosphere in our home has changed for the better, and I feel like “let’s try our relationship again”. ..
In this way, the environment of our home changed drastically with the flowers, and I am full of gratitude.

As mentioned above, these two cases are new to me and I am convinced that results have been obtained by introducing the Okada Health and Wellness Program.
The fact that 20 of the patients I am in charge of have joined MOA and the number of applicants is increasing shows that the effects of the wellness program, such as Purifying Therapy, are remarkable.
I would like to continue working on the care of police officers by practicing the wellness program. Furthermore, based on the results of the “Okada Health and Wellness Program Research Symposium” held by MOA Chile from October 15-16, 2010, I would like to scientifically study the effects of Purifying Therapy on mental care together with Director S of the Ministry of Health and Welfare Health Bureau who participated in the Okada Health and Wellness Program.
